Main Dining Room

A Historic Venue for Larger Affairs

The Main Dining Room (MDR) is a stunning space offering breathtaking views, perfect for galas and large gatherings. Its grandeur is highlighted by fifteen-foot-tall windows, two original fireplaces, trophies, and portraits of notable dignitaries and former Club members.

Opened in 1915 as part of the Club’s expansion, designed by the renowned architects McKim, Mead & White, the room features beautiful Harvard insignia and an intricate plaster ceiling.

Harvard Hall

A Truly Unique Setting with Old-World Grandeur

The grandest room in the Club, opened in 1905 as part of the first building expansion, originally served as the Dining Room. Designed by Charles F. McKim of McKim, Mead & White, the room spans 90 feet in length and boasts a 40-foot ceiling, reflecting Palladian-inspired 17th-century English architecture. The early 18th-century Flemish tapestries adorning the walls depict the Triumphs of Alexander the Great. Additionally, the mounted African elephant head, donated by Club member William Sewall, Class of 1897, in 1909, adds to the room’s distinctive character.

Gordon Reading Room

A Room Framed by Books, Fireplaces, and Expansive Windows

Originally part of the 1894 Clubhouse, this room was the largest at the time and served as the Reading Room/Library. During the 1905 expansion, a stunning plaster ceiling and marble fireplaces were added, enhancing its elegance. In 1941, the room was converted into the Ladies Lounge when a portion of the Clubhouse was designated as Ladies' Quarters.

Named in 1925 for Nicholas Biddle, Class of 1900, who served as Chairman of both the House and Building Committees and as the personal financial advisor to Vincent Astor, the multi-millionaire heir to the Astor estate.

Mahogany Room

A Floor-to-Ceiling, Wood-Paneled Room Overlooking 44th Street

Originally the Billiard Room in the 1894 building, this space featured a pool table. In 1945, it was named after “The Mahogany Club,” a dining group that funded the plaster ceiling and wood paneling in 1905.
